“Kobi Farhi has a beautiful, emotional quality to his voice” – Steve Hackett (Genesis)
This autumn, one of the most powerful and distinctive voices in global rock comes to London for a single, unmissable night. Kobi Farhi, lead singer and founder of legendary oriental metal band Orphaned Land, performs an exclusive UK electro-acoustic concert at The Water Rats, King’s Cross, on Monday 5th October, accompanied by guitar virtuoso Geva Alon. Support will be provided by Geva Alon in a solo opening set.
This is a rare chance to experience Farhi up close, in an intimate, deeply personal concert that puts his extraordinary voice and songwriting front and centre.
Farhi founded Orphaned Land in 1991, going on to build one of the most remarkable and boundary-defying bands in heavy metal. The band weaves together Mizrahi and Maghrebi Jewish, Arabic, Turkish, and other Middle Eastern and North African musical traditions with the power and drama of metal, widely acknowledged as pioneers of oriental metal, they have influenced bands from across the Middle East from countries ranging from the Israeli and Palestinian music scenes on to Turkey and Iran through to Egypt and Tunisia. Over more than three decades, Orphaned Land has built a devoted global following united by a shared love of music that transcends borders, language and belief. Farhi himself has collaborated with an extraordinary range of artists among them Steve Hackett (Genesis), Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree), and Hansi KĂĽrsch (Blind Guardian) and has received multiple international awards recognising the power of music as a force for human connection.
Farhi’s artistic work has earned international acclaim, leading to collaborations with both Jewish and Muslim artists and helping break cultural barriers in regions where such exchanges were once considered impossible – and for many, illegal. Through his music and public advocacy, he has become a prominent voice in conversations surrounding culture, coexistence, and peace. He has received seven international awards, five of them recognizing his contribution to promoting peace through art. His new autobiographical book, The Jewish Muezzin, chronicles his extraordinary journey, from a childhood marked by the traumas of war to becoming a key figure in alternative culture and a symbol of dialogue through music. *This book will be exclusively available to buy ahead of its release at this event.
About Geva Alon
Joining Kobi on stage and in support, is Geva Alon, one of the most gifted and versatile guitarists and singer-songwriters working today. Celebrated as an extraordinary and inventive guitar player capable of both fierce fretwork and long, slow-burning jams, Alon first made his name as founder and leader of rock trio The Flying Baby who released two celebrated albums. As a solo artist, with no less than eight studio albums, 2 eps and another album on the way, he has emerged as a genuine musical gem, at once a sensitive alt-country troubadour and capable of unleashing a full, squalling wall of sound forging his own compelling Americana-rooted sound across a series of critically acclaimed albums. His playing has drawn comparisons to Neil Young, and his live performances are renowned for their emotional depth, unpredictability and sheer guitar mastery packed with rhythmic harmonic textures, sophisticated nuance and searing powerful lead guitar.
“Absolutely Brilliant” – Bob Harris, BBC
“..impressive Crazy Horse-via-REM effortlessness… a distinctive singing voice which channels JosĂ© González and America’s Gerry Beckley.” – MOJO
“Alon’s resonant voice ranges from rich baritone to Neil Young falsetto” – Uncut
