Following last year’s presentation of the history of the original Players’ Theatre, this talk will concentrate on some of the favourite performers (with the narrative accompanied by archive video clips) who helped establish ‘Late Joys’ and the Players as a British institution.
Our speakers are both long term members of the BMHS and have teamed up to provide popular illustrated talks to our members for the last ten years.
Keith Fawkes has a lifelong passion for music hall and was first introduced to the Players’ Theatre in Villiers Street, aged 17. He became their Hon. Secretary and remained with the company until its untimely closure in 2002 and having witnessed its running challenges. His long association with the Players’ also meant that he became a friend of many it its performers. Keith is also a former chairman of the Hornsey Historical Society and has provided numerous talks on a variety of subjects.
Richard Norman has an interest in buildings designed for entertainment. He is also a qualified Audio-Visual engineer. From the earliest days of the formation of the BMHS he has recorded many of the artistes who have given talks or performed for them, for their archive. Richard has also developed his skills for creating illustrated talks using film clips, and presented these to a number of societies, sometimes given in prestigious venues. He is also closely involved with the Cinema Theatre Association and The Frank Matcham Society.
