Rock N Roll Book Club Special– Malcolm Garrett’s Art Statement: a very special evening …but there’s no book! But there’s sooooo much copy…can somebody sort a book out please?! Tonight we are very pleased to welcome Malcolm Garrett to The Water Rats to enjoy the wonderful Book Club format and ambience.
His ingenious imagery adorns records by Buzzcocks, Simple Minds and Duran Duran; he pioneered digital design in the 1990s and worked with Oasis, Orbital and Iron Maiden; he’s a founder of the Design Manchester festival and created cinematics for Prof Brian Cox’s 2021 Horizons – A 21st Century Space Odyssey tour; and on tonight, Malcolm Garrett MBE RDI will be talking to Alison Beale how he’s still working to create fresh, relevant and purposeful design for today’s musicians and organisations, and questions whether record sleeves can be classified as Art.
